In this course, learners talk about what safe means to them and how to communicate when they feel unsafe.

Our Goal

Schools are on the frontline:

According to a 2023 CDC study, since youth spend 95% of their time in school, schools are a place to build life skills and gain support to prevent and reduce the impact of trauma and improve mental health.

Why it Matters

School have already strained resources:

According to a 2023 Education Week article, the majority of schools are struggling with staff shortages, including those designated to help youth through mental health crises.

Concerning Disparities across racial groups:

According to the same CDC study, Hispanic and Multiracial students were most likely to report persistent depressive symptoms. and suicide attempts were higher among Black students than any other race.

The Economic Value of SEL skills

According to a 2013 study, "The Economic Value of Social and Emotional Learning," for every dollar invested in an SEL intervention, there is a return of $11 for every  $1.
